VOL. 52 ISSUE 22 JUNE 2, 2015 P105 Briefly... Former factory Kawasaki road racer Tony Meiring, from Tracy, Califor- nia, raced Sacramento in the GNC2 class. Meiring, who raced flat track as an amateur, was a road racer by the time he turned pro. "I'm working full time, getting old," Meiring joked. "This is the second pro dirt track race I've ever done in my life. I did dirt track all the way up until I was 15 and then I went road racing. Daytona was my first pro race as a flat tracker. I have my GNC1 license; I just haven't had the opportunity to ride a Twin. I think I'd ride a Twin better than I do a 450. I think I'd fit on it better. I'm just racing to have fun. I'm having a good time." Meiring made the GNC2 main and finished 15th. Meiring shared the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award with Bryan Smith in 1999. Jay Springsteen won the "Clash of the Titans II" a rematch of last year's wildly popular exhibition between him and Chris Carr. "Springer" also won last year's race and beforehand Carr joked with Jay, "You've got to let me win this year so we can hook these guys for a rubber match next year." The two drafted one another and ran nose to tail the entire four- laps, but in the end Springsteen got it again. "I think Chris spun it up coming out of four and lost his drive," Springsteen said. "That was a lot of fun and it's always great to come out and see these fans at Sacramento." Jay Springsteen donated his helmet and number plate from his Clash of the Titans 2 with the proceeds to go to injured racer Jethro Halbert. Nine-time Sacramento Mile winner Chris Carr was hard at work not only handling analysis duties for Fan- 1 JARED MEES 3 RD Jared Mees had to be running on fumes after racing in Wisconsin the night before. He and his Las Vegas Harley-Davidson/Rogers Racing team had it all together come race time though and were in the hunt all night lead- ing three laps along the way before finishing third. "I just didn't put it all together," Mees explained. "I'm a little frustrated because I felt like we had it to win tonight, I really did. I made one little mistake trying to run down Brandon [Robinson] and just drifted a little wide and that's what actually cost me right there. I was able to get off the corner good enough to get a podium, so all in all it was a good night. 6 BRAD BAKER 4 TH Brad Baker has moved up to sixth in the points after two solid performanc- es on miles at Springfield and now Sacramento. He said at Sacto the chal- lenge was getting the factory Harley to hook up out of the turns and it re- sulted in him having to come from behind in the main. "I was having issues spinning coming out of the turns, but I think that was pretty much because I had cords showing in my tires by the end of the race," Baker explained. "After a not so good start I finally found my stride and was able to pick a bunch of guys off. By the time I got up to the lead I pretty much had no tire left. I could feel it. I wish I could have been on the box for how hard I fought to come back, but congratulations to those guys for a great race." continued on next page
