aged to make the distance in the
whole race."
Rounding out the top five was
Herrin's championship rival—JD
Beach—and Latus Motors Rac-
ing's Bobby Fong.
OH, FOR THE THRILL OF IT
The Supersport class is synony-
mous with close racing. There
are many battles that have gone
down in the history books as
memorable racing—Sunday's
race two at Road America was
no exception.
Three-wide, crossing the line
for a photo finish. And the man
coming out on top—JD Beach.
After a disappointing race one
in fourth, Beach was happy to
come out on top in the dry, es-
pecially in such epic fashion.
"Yeah, first off hats off to Gar-
rett and Josh. They've been rid-
ing so fast all year," Beach said.
"Yesterday the race wasn't great
but we finished… to come back
and get the win today is awe-
some. I didn't really expect it. I
knew I had a really good pace
but with the way the wind was
blowing and stuff it was really
hard to break away because the
draft was so big. So going into
the last lap I was trying to get up
front. That plan didn't really go
well and I got back to third and
couldn't really make any passes.
I kind of got lucky with Josh
[Herrin] and Garrett [Gerloff]
making a big old air pocket for
me and got by them.
"I didn't know I won until…
I knew I was right there, but I
sat up after the line. I was kind
of looking and I saw off in turn
one it had the Jumbotron and
the names just started coming
across. It said number one and
it had my name. I'm like, oh my
god. I was really surprised, so it
was awesome."
For Herrin, his Sunday jinx
continued, as all three wins this
season have been on Saturday.
Even so, the former AMA Su-
perbike champ is happy with his
growth as a racer this season.
"I think I'm jinxed," Herrin said.
"I don't know what it is about
Sundays. It used to be Saturdays
that were bad and Sunday was
good. But the race was great.
There's something inside me this
year that just makes me want to
pass everybody whenever they
pass me back where the past
nine years I've not been like that.
I think it's a good change for me
just confidence-wise because
it's teaching me to run up front
without a tow and it's also just
good to change it up and try
something new."
As for Gerloff, while disap-
pointing to come so close and
end up third, it was still much
better than Saturday's result.
Gerloff rebounded from a
tough race one—crashing out
of the lead—to fight for the win
in race two.
