MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 4/MAY 29-31, 2015
ROAD AMERICA/ELKHART LAKE, WISCONSIN
P138
needed some points after our
crash in Texas and we couldn't
afford to fall down again or make
any big mistakes. I'm just really
happy to finish the race and to
finish in first is kind of an extra
boost for us.
"I've never really been a fan of
riding here in the wet… because
you're going through on the
back straight with the turns and it
puddles a little bit. You're always
having some big moments. Like
this morning I had a big moment
in 6th gear on the back straight-
away. I almost high-sided and
the wall was like 20 feet away
from it. So it definitely scared me
and that's kind of why I used the
strategy that I did and just tried
to stay up."
As for second place finisher,
Road Race Factory's Tomas
Puerta, he was quite comfort-
able in the wet and very happy to
get his first podium in the class.
"I feel really comfortable in
the wet. I like to ride in the rain
a lot," Puerta said. "The first few
laps were really good for me. I
was right there with Herrin and
Gerloff and those guys. And
then halfway through the race I
got pretty bad fog in the helmet
and it was really hard to see the
potholes and braking marks on
everything. So after Cameron
[Petersen] went down I took it
easy and tried to bring it to the
podium."
Puerta's teammate Ben Young
was also comfortable in the wet
(perhaps owing that to his Canadi-
an/Scottish lineage), and earned
his first podium in the class.
"The weather was quite
mixed; It was good though,"
Young said. "We had a few wet
races last year racing in the BSB
[British Superbike Series] so it
was good to have a little bit more
experience in the rain and with
the cold especially because over
here when it's wet—it's usually
warm still—but with it being cold
it kind of suited me a bit more.
It was difficult but I think it was
just one of these ones you just
have to last the distance to make
it happen. All of us three man-
RoadRace Factory teammates
Tomas Puerta (12) and
Cameron Petersen (45) were
also in the hunt in race one.
