MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 2 / MAY 23, 2015
GLEN HELEN RACEWAY / SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA
P80
Helen was making some big
changes to his bike from the
previous week… "gearing, little
bit of motor stuff, suspension,
sag—we changed quite a bit."
Fitness, he said, is still a bit of
an issue following his injury in
Supercross. "Fitness-wise, I've
got a little bit of work to do; six
weeks of sitting around, sleeping
a lot from my head injury kind of
screwed me up. I got arm-pump
out there which I've never had
in my life. I was holding on so
tight I twisted my grips [on the
handlebars] and they're glued
and wired tight, and they were
still twisted all the way around!"
McElrath ended up sixth over-
all with a 9-3.
The best non-KTM rider in
the class was Joey Savatgy on
the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit
Kawasaki. Savatgy had a very
promising first moto, starting
and finishing the race in third. A
terrible start in the second moto,
though, ruined any hope he had
of getting on the podium, but a
seventh did make it close with
fourth overall. CN
