to the kind of telephone num-
ber cash needed to buy an
MV Agusta. No more.
Though not exactly cheap,
the two versions of the Tur-
ismo Veloce—which are avail-
able in either: red and silver
with a black frame, or silver
and grey with a red frame—
come competitively priced.
The standard model we rode
on the press launch that's just
entering showrooms priced
at around $15,998, and
the Lusso variant complete
with electronic suspension,
heated grips, center-stand
and GPS sensor that'll be
available in July, coming in at
$18,998.
In developing the Turismo
Veloce, MV is determinedly
punching above its weight—
both commercially and in
terms of cubic capacity.
"The debut of this model is
as important as the launch of
the F4 in 1997, or as that of
the Brutale or F3," said MV
Agusta owner Giovanni Cas-
tiglioni. "To shape this new
bike, we had to rethink our
priorities in terms of design
compared to the sportbikes
we're accustomed to produc-
ing. Comfort, luggage ca-
pacity, engine flexibility, low
fuel consumption, extended
maintenance intervals—all
these are factors a customer
is looking for in a dedicated
touring model. And we have
focused on providing these.
"But while we believe we
can compare the Turismo
Veloce with the Ducati Multi-
strada 1200, BMW R1200GS
or Triumph Tiger Explorer—our
bike stands apart. It has a supe-
rior power-to-weight ratio to all of
them, yet it's intended for both
beginners and more experi-
enced riders, which is a first for
MV Agusta. If an MV is like a Fer-
rari, in the past you needed to
have another bike in your garage
from a different manufacturer if
you wanted to ride every day.
