2015 MV AGUSTA 800 TURISMO VELOCE
FIRST RIDE
P58
"This engine has been com-
pletely redesigned compared to
the 800 Stradale and Brutale,"
says MV Agusta's chief engineer,
Marco Cassinelli. "Our focus
was on improved rideability and
greater low-end torque, with
better combustion stability at low
revs, and low throttle loads. To
achieve this we've fitted rede-
signed camshafts in terms of
both profile and timing, with ba-
sically zero overlap, plus the pis-
ton is completely different with
a bowl shape to the top, more
or less like a Heron design. All
of which helps us reach Euro 4
compliance with this motor."
Maximum lift on both inlet and
exhaust cams is now just 7mm
(compared to 8.6mm on the inlet
on both Stradale and the Bru-
tale) and 8mm on the exhaust,
resulting in a significant improve-
ment in midrange and bottom
end torque.
"At 5,000 rpm there's already
80Nm available, with maximum
torque of 83Nm at 8,000 rpm,"
says Cassinelli. "But 90 percent
of that is available from just 3,000
revs until peak power is produced
at 10,000 rpm. This is reduced to
110 bhp at the crankshaft on the
Turismo Veloce using Sport mode
out of the four available, com-
pared to 125 bhp on the Rivale
and 115bhp on the Stradale. But in
Rain mode it's reduced to 80bhp,
and in Touring to 90bhp. Then
as usual there's a Custom mode
for you to create your own riding
map, but always with a maximum
horsepower of 110 bhp available."
Service intervals have also
been more than doubled on the
Turismo Veloce version of the
motor.
Switching between modes on
the go with the engine running
and in gear is now absolutely
The side bags
are optional,
but with or
without them
the Veloce is
nimble.
