going down again in a relatively
simple fall. Unfortunately, this
duel didn't even make it to the
halfway point.
"I just overshot the double
a little bit and was a little bit
front end high, so the front end
landed light and then it just
popped up and rebounded, and
there went my front end," Tomac
said of the fall.
Before Tomac hit the deck,
the two had battled heavily. At
one point, Tomac slipped past
Dungey, who came right back
to reassume the lead. Dungey
had only a few bikelengths on
Tomac when the Honda rider
washed out on the third lap.
Tomac, however, got right up
hardly missing a beat, but it was
just long enough to let Dungey
get away. Despite reeling off
the quickest lap time of the race
with 1:06.190 (Dungey's best
was a 1:06.271), Tomac couldn't
get back what he had handed
Dungey, who ended up taking
the checkered flag four seconds
ahead of the Honda pilot.
Spurred on by
his teammate
Musquin, Mr. Heel
Clicker, Dungey
proved that he too
can click some
heels over the
finish line jump.
