the heat and made a few at-
tempts to pass Haaker for the
lead, but the Husky rider re-
sponded every time and eventu-
ally turned his defense mode
into a small lead as they thread-
ed their way through lapped
traffic. At this point for Haaker,
it was just a matter of keeping
the mistakes to a minimum and
crossing his fingers, hoping not
to get collected in someone
else's misfortune on the track.
Haaker, however, rode a steady
and calculated race, avoided
trouble (and there was plenty to
avoid), and maintained his ad-
vantage over Webb until the end,
crossing the finish line with a few
seconds to spare over Webb.
They were the only two riders to
finish on the lead lap.
Webb, however, kept the
points damage to a minimum.
