SUPERSPORT ROUND 1/APRIL 11, 2015 CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS/AUSTIN, TEXAS P96 MOTOAMERIC A FIM/AMA NOR TH AMERIC AN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP battling for the top honors. That was until all hell broke loose. The rain really started coming down at around four laps to go. Herrin eventually made a mis- take that allowed Fong to slip by and Beach past the pair of them to take the lead. It then went from bad to worse for Herrin as he crashed out of a podium position with two laps remaining; teammate Joe Roberts followed suit a moment later. Fong would also get caught out by the tough conditions and crashed on the final lap. With all of the fallout it was a nail-biter until the end, but Beach held on for the win, Gerl- off took second and M4 Suzuki's David Anthony third. "By the end the tires had kind of lost their edge," Gerloff said. "And that's when Bobby [Fong] and Josh [Herrin] and Joe [Rob- erts] went down, like, within two laps. Once I saw that I was just focused on not crashing and trying to think about the championship, so I just stayed in second place." Known for riding well in the wet, it wasn't a surprise to see Anthony take a podium spot in the difficult conditions, but the Australian felt that he had the pace to be there in the wet or dry. In addition to the difficult conditions, it had been a long time since Anthony had raced a 600 in the national championship—2010 in Daytona Sportbike. "First time out on a Super- sport bike in a long time," Anthony said. "Been on a Su- perbike quite a few years now, as long as probably anyone can remember. To jump in on a dif- ferent program, everything's dif- ferent for me. I've never ridden for a team like this before. It's just totally different. So to be out there and get the result and be on the podium is… what more could I ask for?" In fourth was Petersen's team- mate Ben Young ahead of Kaleb De Keyrel on a privateer Ya- maha. The Meen Yamaha duo— Roberts and Herrin—were able to rejoin the race, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Kyle Wyman finished eighth on his self-ran Yamaha effort. Fong also was able to recover from his crash and finish the race in ninth, as did Ramdan Rosli who finished 10th. CN Supersport Final: 1. JD Beach (Yamaha) 2. Garrett Gerloff (Yamaha) 3. David Anthony (Suzuki) 4. Ben Young (Yamaha) 5. Kaleb De Keyrel (Yamaha) 6. Joe Roberts (Yamaha) 7. Josh Herrin (Yamaha) 8. Kyle Wyman (Yamaha) 9. Bobby Fong (Triumph) 10. Ramdan Rosli (Yamaha) Briefly... and it started dumping rain. It was really hard to see, my shield fogged up and rain started dumping into my helmet. I went hot into a corner, hit a seam in the middle of the track and ended up crashing. There were a lot of positives this weekend but not the results we wanted. Luckily, we were able to salvage some points." Joe Roberts (27) and Malaysian Ramdan Rosli (93) also fell victim to the difficult conditions.
