Haaker managed a bullish
runner-up finish despite starting
the race with a pair of broken
ribs and a lacerated spleen that
he's been dealing with for over a
week prior to the race.
"I had an opportunity to film
Moto the Movie and that's what I
was doing when I crashed," said
Haaker. "Unfortunately, I was
attempting a 360 flip turn and
I lost it. It's not like it's the first
time it's ever happened to me.
It's a risk, risk and reward. Com-
ing into tonight, I didn't know I
was going to be here, so I was
happy that I got the okay from
my doctor. He didn't actually say
'okay,' but I was like, 'I'm going.'
I talked to people—the trauma
centers across the street—if I hit
my spleen and I needed it out,
then I could go and get it out. I
know what the injury is. My doc-
tor is here, too. He's an Asterisk
mobile medical doctor. He does
all my surgeries and everything,
too."
Haaker was obviously pleased
to come away with second place
points.
"I was just trying to control
myself," said Haaker. "Trying
to control any possibilities of
re-injuring myself for sure, then
also just sticking my neck out
there and getting it done. I didn't
want to come in and lose points.
That's the big thing for me. I
didn't want to miss the race.
Kyle Redmond looked good
on his new Beta, finishing out
the night on the podium.
