VOL. 52 ISSUE 10 MARCH 10, 2015 P103
FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team
Maxxis-backed rider kicked off
the 2015 season with an impres-
sive win at the series opener in
Daytona's Ocean Center.
Webb's win was not a straight
up domination, though. After
turning the second-fastest time
in the hot laps behind Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna Factory Rac-
ing's Mike Brown, the 300 XC
rider got cut off in the first turn of
the main event and started the
opening lap in eighth.
Webb was able to move up
quickly through the pack and
when Brownie crashed, the
lanky rider from Northern Califor-
nia took over the lead.
In spite of two crashes of
his own during the main event,
one in the Matrix and another
after the finish line log obstacle,
Webb still managed to keep Kyle
Redmond and Colton Haaker at
bay, finishing the race 13 sec-
onds ahead of Haaker, although
the 26-year-old was not happy
with his race.
"The win really wasn't great,"
said Webb. "A win's a win, but
I just wish I would have rode
better. I should have been able
to capitalize more on everyone
else's mistakes, but I was just
right there with them. I think
it was just a testament of the
track; no one could overpower it
tonight. Luckily I kind of got it to
the best of my advantage."
Colton Haaker could be
Webb's number-one threat
for the 2015 EX title.
