the Talladega (turn). But then the
top four or five guys all messed
up on the ridge over here."
The Prairie Dogs MC added in
an extra section for the two-hour
West Coast GP race, but the
lead riders followed the worn-in
terrain rather than the course
markings and blew the turn on
the opening lap.
"They changed it, and they told
us," Thompson recalled. "They
said they had ribboned it off good,
but still, everyone went one way
and the track went the other."
Everyone except for Udall,
who was in about fifth place at
the time.
"I just turned right and saw the
arrows – kinda like a National
Hare and Hound," Udall said.
"I raced that last weekend, I so
was looking (for course mark-
ers). It worked out. I rode right
into the lead and just started
checking out."
"I saw Colton out front and
I was like, 'Shoot! This is re-
ally going to be hard,'" Seeds
lamented. "I know he's really fast
out here. I tried to put the ham-
mer down."
But Seeds had his hands full
with another Honda-mounted
rider. Mark Samuels immediately
set to work challenging Seeds for
the runner-up position, and the
two banged bars for the first lap.
"I was having a good time with
him, but it was just unfortunate
that I could see Colton creeping
away," Seeds said. "I was like, 'I
gotta get around him!' Mark rides
a really wide bike and he put up
a good fight. I was able to sneak
around him at the beginning of
that second lap. I just had to put
my head down and go!"
Try as he might, Seeds
couldn't close the gap on Udall.
The only time he held the physi-
cal lead was when Udall made
his pit stop. But when Seeds pit-
ted on the next lap, Udall pulled
away even more, and carried his
lead all the way to the finish.
"We finished it out. I was
stoked," Udall said. "I love Glen
Helen. I've been racing here a
long time. I just wish there was
some other players here so I
could prove what I got for 'em."
The "other players," includ-
ing Robby Bell, winner from
the previous round, were at the
WORCS race in Peoria, Arizona,
which fell on the same week-
end. Most racers had to select
one or the other, but there were
some riders who threw their hat
in both rings – such as Blayne
Thompson. The Zip-Ty Racing/
