WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 52 ISSUE 8 FEBRUARY 24, 2015 P63 nally, I was able to do something with that." Reed was solid for the entire 20 laps, but that didn't keep him from worrying about Dungey at the end of the race. "Five laps to go, it started to set in that I can really pull this thing off," said Reed. "I kind of started to ride a little tight and just said, 'hey, man, you've gone this far, you can't throw it away now.' That would be my typical Atlanta ride. I stuck with it." DUNGEY'S PULLING AWAY Dungey boosted his points lead to 25 with his runner-up finish, and the Red Bull KTM rider came close to running Reed down near the end, closing the gap to about one second at one point, but inconsistent runs through the whoops kept that from happening and Reed held on for the win. "It was a cat-and-mouse thing," said Dungey. "I would gain a little on him, but then if I didn't hit the whoops just right I would lose ground to him." Trey Canard was third, the Team Honda HRC rider the vic- tim of a poor start. Canard was 10 th at the end of lap one, and worked his way into fourth by lap five, behind Reed, Weston Peick and Dungey. On lap 10, Canard snuck un- der Peick to take over third, but by then he was too far down to catch the two front-runners. RED WAVE "Bad start again which is a bummer but just tried to make moves," said Canard. "I was riding really aggressive. I think you have to when you're that far back. I did the best that I could and, once I got into third, Briefly... pretty obvious all day that the outside lane was not up to par, so we ended up just racing that same line every lap. I think it's something that maybe they just work on and try to make a little more fair next time." Weston Peick added his two cents on the split lane, as well. "When they make a two-lane option like that and don't make them fair enough to where people can run both op- tions, it's kind of stupid because ev- erybody's going to funnel down the one section," said Peick. "When you make a whoops section like that, it's obviously going to get beat down and just have one group down the middle. It just gets super sketchy and it starts to get dangerous. Other than that it was just kind of a little sketchy, but it wasn't bad." For the second week in a row, Eli Tomac crashed during the main event, this time the GEICO Honda went down in the slippery midsection of the track and ended up cutting his right arm, which later required stitch- es. He still remounted and finished the race in 20th place. Afterwards, he was stitched up at the Asterisk medical trailer. "I'm fine, just really frustrated, because I was fast all day," Tomac said. "I just made a mis- take out there in that slick part of the track and lost the front end. It was slicker than it normally is and I just got caught. I had fun getting after it with Dungey in the heat race and I was hyped for the main. I didn't get the greatest of starts but managed to get past some guys and get up to fourth. I was pushing as hard as I could to close the gap on third so I could be in podium contention and that's when I lost it. Nothing I can do Jeremy Martin grabbed his first career Supercross win in the 250 class after what was one of the best races all year. continued on next page
