MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD
ROUND 6/FEBRUARY 7, 2015
PETCO PARK/SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
P44
DOWNTOWN!
The Monster Energy AMA Super-
cross series invaded downtown San
Diego, California, for its debut race at
Petco Park. While there were some
logistical challenges in holding a race
downtown—managing traffic crossings
for bikes and crews leaving the pits
across the street from the stadium—it
was a nice change of scenery.
"It's nice to be a little bit different,"
Ryan Dungey said. "Kind of switch
up the scenery here in California—dif-
ferent venue, different setup, and
different atmosphere for sure. Petco
Park was awesome. It was a cool first
time here."
Yes, in addition to the novelty of
seeing bikes against the backdrop of
the city skyline and at a traffic cross-
ing, the facilities at Petco Park were
much nicer than the aging Qualcomm
Stadium.
And technically speaking, when it
came to racing, the track was, well
technical. But while tough was gener-
ally well received.
"It was a tough one," Ken Roczen
said. "Some parts were tight and
some long. We made a couple of
changes on the bike. Overall I love
the stadium. It's super cool here and I
can't wait to come back."
For 250 rider Shane McElrath the
layout made for great racing.
