WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 52 ISSUE 6 FEBRUARY 10, 2015 P45
So Coop suited up on Military
Appreciation night, the sixth
round of the Monster Energy
AMA Supercross series, and
didn't just salvage points in the
250 West Championship, he
went out and won the race—an
effort that gave him a thirty-point
lead in the championship.
On the 450 side of things,
Team Honda HRC's Trey Canard
won his second race of the
year, holding up under pressure
from a very determined RCH
Racing's Ken Roczen, the only
other 450 rider to win two races
this season. Joining that club
was not only nice because at
18 points in third place behind
leader Ryan Dungey on the Red
Bull KTM kept Canard in the title
chase, it also was the first time
since his rookie season in 2011
that he won more than one race
in a Supercross season.

It was a textbook Roczen—get

pick for my heat. I pulled the hole-
shot in the main but wasn't riding like
myself. I ended up sixth so it was
kind of disappointing. I'm going to
regroup and heal my thumb. I'm four
points out of second place so I'm go-
ing to keep fighting. There's a lot of
racing left to do and a lot can happen
in this class."
Jessy Nelson's teammate Shane
McElrath had a much better week-
end and heads into the break with
his first podium finish in the series.
So is he going to Disneyland? Not
quite, but even better. "Snowboard-
ing tomorrow and Monday," McEl-
rath said. "Then I get to go home
Tuesday for about a week and spend
some time with family. Then get back
out for some outdoor testing."
It was also a rough night for GEICO
Honda 250 riders Matt Bisceglia
and Malcolm Stewart. "I'm really
disappointed with myself," Bisceglia
said. "My result tonight was more of
a product of the heat races than the
main event itself. I had a bad start in
the first heat and then crashed. So I
had to go to the next qualifier, which
I was able to win, but by that point my
gate pick was way back. I ended up
like third from the end in the main."
His teammate Stewart crashed hard
about halfway through the first lap.
Stewart remounted but crashed a
second time and retired.
Rookie Jason Anderson also had a
rough night after getting tangled with
another rider on the start of his heat
race. He advanced through his semi
but made a mistake on lap seven
which he ultimately rebounded from

"It was a race track this week,"
McElrath said. "There was quite a few
options that you could do different and
still be pretty quick with. It felt good
to race some different lines instead of
having to single-file in some sections."
Trey Canard felt that dirt-wise the
track came into its own later on.
"I thought the dirt turned out really
good," Canard said. "I was kind of
nervous on track walk, it was a little
rocky, but it turned out really good."
Dungey also felt dirt -wise it was
pretty good, but the hard-pack Cali-
fornia dirt got a bit slick as the race
went on.
"The track was really good today,
really tacky and moist," Dungey said.
"A little bit hard pack, but that's Califor-
nia dirt, for what it's worth. But by lap
10 in the main event it started getting
really slippery."
Cooper Webb toughed it out with
a shoulder injury to take home his
fourth win of the season.
