GUINTOLI
HEALING UP
R
eigning World Super-
bike Champion Syl-
vain Guintoli had to cut his
pre-season testing short
after suffering a nasty high
side in turn one at Jerez
last week. The Pata Honda
rider returned to the UK for
complete assessment of his
injuries and underwent an
MRI scan on his neck and
back in addition to a further
X-ray on his right ankle.
Despite severe bruising
and some discomfort, it was
confirmed that Guintoli sustained
no fractures and the 32-year-old
has begun his rehabilitation with
physiotherapy and the use of a
hyperbaric chamber.
"The back is still quite pain-
ful, but I can put some pressure
on the ankle and I'm happy that
there are no breaks," Guintoli
said. "The treatment has started
and although it will take a while
to settle down, I'm confident
about being fit and ready to start
the season at Phillip Island next
month.
"In the end, it was frustrating
to miss the test at Jerez, espe-
cially because the weather con-
ditions were so good. But we
have another two-day test in Aus-
tralia before the first round and
I've already had a chance to see
the work that has been done to
the CBR over the winter, so I'm
excited and looking forward to
the first race."
Sylvain Guintoli
says he'll be fit
for the season
opener in
Australia on
February 22.

VAN BEVEREN WINS LA TOUQET
M
oto Land-Yamaha Yama-
lube Racing's Adrien Van
Beveren took top honors at the
Enduro du Touquet (aka La Tou-
quet Beach Race), in La Tou-
quet, France, February 1. It was
the second win in a row for the
Frenchman at the famous beach
race that attracts thousands of
competitors every year.
"This is my second victory
and I am very happy!" said
Van Beveren who rode a Ya-
maha YZ450F. "I managed to
make the difference from the
beginning of the race and I
increased my rhythm through-
out. I don't plan to stop here
and I hope that this is only the
beginning of a long victory list.
My motorcycle's performance
was great, so I was able to take
the holeshot, because I had a
very good top speed on the
straight line."
Second place went to fel-
low Yamaha rider Daymond
Martens of Belgium, with third
going to KTM-mounted Julien
Tournessi of France.
