Third in points in last year's series, Ramirez
spent the day rebounding from an unusual issue
that stopped him cold less than 50 yards off the
start.
"I hit another rider (eventual FMF 250cc
Pro winner Dalton Shirey) when we started,"
Ramirez said. "We were on [intersecting] lines—I
was on the left; he was on the right. Somehow,
my left foot got caught between the rear wheel
and the subframe of my bike. The bike com-
pletely stopped!"

had to wait until mechanic Robbie Goolsby ran
over to assist. That took long enough so when
Ramirez finally was able to get his Motorex/
Dunlop/Red Bull 450 XC-F rolling again, the
pack's dust had cleared.
"I was kind of angry at what happened,"
(Above) Burke Barnes
dominated the large
combined Super Mini/Mini/
Junior Mini race, leading
every lap to win by more
than two minutes.
(Right) Grant Statley turned
in a strong second loop to
win Open A. He was also
the first A rider overall,
finishing 19th in the field.
