OFF ROAD KENDA/SRT AMA HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 /JANUARY 24-25, 2015 JOHNSON VALLEY OHV AREA/LUCERNE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA P90 My Own Race: 101 DAVID KAMO 5TH PLACE "I got a pretty good start," PCI Race Radios/TBT Racing/ Moose Racing KTM 450 XC-F-mounted David Kamo said of his race. "I kind of started on the right side where ev- erybody else was starting and I kind of got dusted out." Despite that, he quickly managed to get into fourth place, where he spent most of the race. But on the second loop, he caught up to Nick Burson, saying, "I got really close to him, but I made so many mistakes. It was so tight and tech- nical, I just kept almost falling over, making mistakes, going on the uphills and almost having to restart going up the hill. I kind of got pooped coming into the finish." N772 NICOLE BRADFORD 1ST WOMEN A ISDE veteran Nicole Bradford has skipped most Nationals since winning the 2012 Women A/B H&H National Cham- pionship, but she's obviously still got plenty of speed, as she proved by easily winning Women A. The Stillwell Per- formance/Rekluse/Moose Racing KTM 250 EXC-mount- ed rider said, "I don't love the first loop at most Nationals—it always scares me to death—but the second loop today was awesome! I made a lot of passes, loved the trail condi- tions—it was great." Despite getting the year off to a good start, Bradford isn't planning on making a run for another H&H championship. "It wasn't something in my mind, cer- tainly, but I've quickly learned you never say never!" X146 DALTON SHIREY1ST 250CC PRO, 8TH OVERALL Last year's 200cc A Champion has set his sights on the 250cc A crown this year, and he began that quest by win- ning the class and finishing eighth overall aboard his Pro Circuit/Zip-Ty Racing/Raw Husqvarna TC 250. "I didn't know it was Ivan Ramirez that I ran into off the start," he said. "At the end of the bomb I fell over and got back up and took off. I probably lost three or four places; I was right behind Skyler [Howes]. I kept going along and every time I'd catch up to someone, they'd fall over. Every person I could pass was someone falling over!" N794 COLTON UDALL 9TH PRO, 10TH OVERALL The day after winning the Bud Light SCORE San Felipe 250, WFOx Motorsports Honda's Colton Udall found the going tougher at the more crowded National. "Today I rode my [Baja] pre-runner out there," Udall said. "I just put a race tank on it. My bike didn't start; I don't have it perfectly jetted and I haven't done any testing out here, nor have I been riding out here, so I didn't have any expectations. The first 15 miles of a National hare and hound are so scary to me. I need to just get more comfortable and be fast off the bomb. I know my skills and I know I can run with those guys—there's no reason why I can't. So, basically I just got a really bad start and just worked my way back up, passed 20 guys and ended up 10th. I'm stoked." Every Youth rider this year will receive a high-visibility bib courtesy of the Kurt Caselli Foundation.
