INTERVIEW P56 KEN ROCZEN STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAN MOORE I t takes more than raw speed to win a Supercross Champi- onship, however, Ken Roczen has shown he has those extra qualities that are often found in a champion, especially a Super- cross Champion. This weekend at Anaheim's Angel Stadium the RCH/Soar- ing Eagle/Jimmy Johns Suzuki rider rode an error-free race on a somewhat difficult track. The German transplant was both fast and smooth and got better as the day went on. Perhaps the attribute, or virtue, that helped him the most this weekend was patience. After admittedly strug- gling in first practice, Roczen was able to let the race and the track come to him, and ultimately rose to the top. "My race started a little rusty," said Roczen. "The track was kind of different. It was very peaked up and not easy to ride, but I knew after the track walk that I didn't want to stress about first or second practice, and the track eventually came around in the main, although it was pretty tricky. We got some ruts and it was a pretty big track with long lap times, which made it interesting." Even in his heat race, Roczen had problems when he gated poorly, but didn't panic and ROCZEN FIRES BACK AFTER LOSING TO TOMAC IN PHOENIX ROCZEN PUTS ON ANOTHER DOMINATING PERFORMANCE AT ANAHEIM
