WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 52 ISSUE 2 JANUARY 13, 2015 P51
distance on Roczen, the Peick/
Dungey battle heated up.
After passing Dungey on the
first lap, Peick ran in third for
most of the race, with Dungey
dogging him at every turn. Three
laps from the end, the KTM
rider squeezed by Peick for the
final podium spot after Peick
cased a jump, giving Dungey an
opportunity to attack. Moments
after passing Peick, the Yamaha
rider could have easily and
almost justifiably slammed
Dungey in a turn while fighting
for that last spot on the podium,
but Peick kept it clean.
"My jump off the gate wasn't
the best, but I was definitely top
five heading into turn one," said
Peick, who settled for fourth
on the night, a career high. "I
just made some passes and got
Dungey real quick and rode a
steady pace all race. We had
our own sections—Dungey had a
faster section and I had a faster
section—and he would come up
to me and I would pull away. We
kept swapping back and forth.
But then about two or three laps
left, I came up short on the triple
in the back and flattened out my
ankle; it's so messed up I can't
even stand on it. Unfortunately,
Dungey got me back, and I
missed out on the podium,
which is a bummer."
Dungey made a couple of
mistakes at the start of the race,
which kept him from challenging
the leaders.
"Peick was riding pretty good
and I couldn't get around him,"
said Dungey. "I had the speed
by the halfway mark, and if I
could of made the pass a little
bit earlier, I maybe could have
been a little bit closer to Roczen
by the end of the race. I was
second off the start, but I got
shuffled around there in the
second corner, and I lost a little
ground there that first lap. By the
end of the race those top guys
were pretty far gone."
