the podium and win it if the op-
portunity arose," Bowers said. "I
got off to a bad start and wasn't
able to get to the front as quickly
as I could. This track was a little
bit difficult to pass on without run-
ning someone over. And as you
saw before I got in a little bit of
trouble for that, so I was trying
not to do that in the main event."
(In his heat race, Bowers caused
an altercation with Osborne that
the AMA thought was a little too
aggressive.)
Just outside of the podium
was RedBull KTM's Justin Hill in
fourth. He made a good showing
on his new team with a heat win
and decent points coming out of
Anaheim.
The most impressive perfor-
mance outside of a podium, how-
ever, was rookie Yamahalube/
Star Racing/Yamaha's Aaron
Plessinger who went from nearly
dead last to finish fifth. In sixth
was Nelson's teammate Shane
McElrath followed by Pless-
inger's teammate and last year's
250 Supercross rookie of the
year, Cooper Webb.
Reigning AMA 250 Motocross
Champion Alex Martin started
the season off eighth for the Cy-
cle Trader.com/Rock River Ya-
maha Team. Finishing ninth was
veteran Josh Hansen on the Mo-
tosports Kawasaki after recover-
ing from a crash while battling for
sixth with McElrath. Rounding
out the top 10 was Michael Leib
on the Rocket Performance/On
Track Honda. CN
