BRABEC
VOL. 51 ISSUE 50 DECEMBER 16, 2014 P221
"Desert racing is definitely
hazardous…it's just riding
on the edge. It's fun and it's
kind of a surprise every race
because you don't know
what's coming up."
(Above) Brabec also
cleaned up in Best in
the Desert, successfully
defending that
championship. Originally,
it was the only series he
planned to run in 2014.
(Right) Soaked in
champagne after the
final round of the hare
& hounds, Ricky Brabec
finished that season the
winner. A year ago, he
wasn't even planning on
racing the series!
started training for myself. [He's 211 pounds now.]
I was always trying to race Best in the Desert with
THR Motorsports, and I got the [BITD] Champion-
ship last year, Ty Renshaw and me did that togeth-
er. This year, I raced [BITD] with Robby Bell and
THR wanted to sponsor me in hare and hounds
and Baja, so I did the first hare and hound. Totally
unexpected, I was running second overall most of
the day and I eventually finished fifth due to break-
ing off my front brake in the rocks. After round one
of the hare and hounds, I kind of figured, "Well,
if I maybe focus a little bit more and started train-
ing more, I could possibly win one!" So I started
training and riding a lot more with Kris Keefer. Ever
since then, everything's been looking up.
So you didn't really plan to do three series
in 2014?
