But the ever-upbeat 23-year-old former BMX racer is determined to keep all three number-one plates on his bikes, even if it means racing with the meager funding of a threadbare shoestring. We caught up with Ricky not long after the final AMA Hare & Hound and chatted a bit with the new champ about the 2014 season and the future. What's your racing background and what made you decide to get serious about 2014? When did you make the decision and what was the plan you came up with to tackle three different series? My first off-road race was in 2008, I think. Before that, I was just being a track guy going to the motocross tracks on the weekends. My dad would take me and the family; I'm the only one who races [regularly], and my family camps here and there. They ride sometimes. My dad has a Class 1 car—a Class 1 Unlimited off-road car—that we don't really race that much; we race it maybe twice a year just for fun, just locally be- cause it's cool to get the family out there and watch something a little bit different than dirt bikes.
