VOL. 51 ISSUE 46 NOVEMBER 18, 2014 P47
Briefly...
After a career spanning motocross,
EnduroCross and Baja, Mike Brown
has seen a lot of different types of
terrain all over the world and noted,
"This is probably the closest thing
to Baja besides being there! All the
washes and every track we rode is
Baja-style, which is good for us—we
ride it a little bit. The tracks have ac-
tually been fun. They don't look as
fun as they are, but I don't mind them
too bad." Asked about the transfer
trails early in the week, he replied,
"That's the worst part, really. It's
rocky and just sand whoops, and it's
not really fun."
After the day three fiasco, the orga-
nizers wanted to avoid decimating
the field further so at the FIM Jury
meeting that night, they decided to
give the riders—and their machines—
a break. Instead of repeating the trail
through the desert between a couple
checks, riders were re-routed and
put on a paved bicycle path next to
the highway. It was definitely easier
on everyone.
Since Mexico was among the coun-
tries that didn't send a World Trophy
team, Gary Sutherlin ended up on
the KTM 450 XC-F that had been
prepared for Ivan Ramirez. He first
tried it out this summer at the Team
USA ISDE Training Camp in Arizona.
Justin Jones also had previous ex-
perience on his 450 XC-F, though in
a different environment. According
to his father, three-time AMA 250cc
National MX Champion Gary Jones,
Justin raced it at the Rocky Moun-
tain ATV/MC Amateur National Mo-
tocross Championships at Loretta
Lynn's. The biggest change was
