VOL. 51 ISSUE 43 OCTOBER 28, 2014 P81
Briefly...
Ricky Brabec earned the biggest
chunk of the prize, which amounted
to $2000, runner-up Nick Burson
picking up $1000 and Ivan Ramirez
collecting $750 for third. Axel Pear-
son got $500 for fourth with Skyler
Howes netting $250 for fifth.
With BLM fees now approaching
$10,000 per day, the era of two-day
events in Southern California could
be over. That was the primary reason
for cutting the 100s event from its
originally planned Youth National on
Saturday and big bikes on Sunday,
as has been the norm. But AMA Dis-
trict 37 officials and the Kurt Caselli
Foundation are exploring options
that could see two-day race week-
ends once again, though next year
would be the earliest to implement
any planned measures.
Since he'd already wrapped up
the 250cc A championship, Ryan
Smith entered Open A aboard his
new YZ450F instead of his trusty
YZ250. With minimal time aboard
the bike he plans to race next year,
he just tried to get a feel for it and
finished second to H&H first-timer
Eric Yorba.
Another young rider trying a bigger
bike was Dalton Shirey. He'd sewed
up the 200cc A class at a previous
round and wants to ride 250s next
year to improve his chances of bet-
ter overall finishes. So, he hopped
aboard a YZ250 for this one and
finished second 250cc A, less than
three minutes behind winner (for the
second time this season) Steve Kirk
III.
Former series regular David Kamo
Ivan Ramirez had an outside chance at the title
going into the final, but finished the season
with a strong second place for third in points.
After a bad start,
Jacob Argubright
went all-out trying
to make up time.
Unfortunately, he
crashed less than
10 miles into the
race and DNFed
with a broken
wrist.
