SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY CUP OCTOBER 18, 2014 SAM BOYD STADIUM/LAS VEGAS, NEVADA P50 >>SUPER MINI SHOWDOWN Unlike traditional Supercross races, the MEC also showcases many of the top minicycle racers in the country, and for many of them it's the first time racing in front of a large crowd on a Supercross-style track. It's big night for the kids. Coming into the weekend, a heavy favorite was KTM Mitchell Falk who is a veteran of the Supermini class and looking to get on a big bike soon. Be- ing a heavy favorite comes with pres- sure and Falk didn't crack one bit. He consistently laid down the fastest laps of the day and brought the heat to the mains. These riders were jumping the same obstacles as the big bikes, short of a three-three-three rhythm section that was not feasible on a mini bike. Full size Supercross triple, though? No problem! The level of these ama- teurs can be mind blowing. When the gate dropped for race one, the holeshot was snagged by Team Green Kawasaki's Carson Mumford who is new to the Supermini class. Falk followed suit in a close second and in a veteran-esque move would scrub the big triple staying about three feet lower and pass Mum- ford. Falk would pull away, letting ev- eryone know he was ready to win this thing. On the charge was a very fast Garrett Marchbanks who overtook the second-place position from Mumford with a clean pass on lap one. Chase Sexton, who was another heavy hitter coming in, found himself in eighth position after lap one, but he would carve his way to fourth by the end of the race. The top five stayed fairly even, with Marchbanks just running out of laps to close a gap on Falk, who snagged the race-one victory. Race two found riders seeing red flags for a restart after the difficult cen- ter rhythm section claimed almost half the field, as Joey Crown and March- banks came together after going for the same line on lap one. This caused a chain reaction of get-offs, but Crown and the rest would get up on their own, leaving Marchbanks to line up for With a million dollars on the line, Trey Canard (41), next to Justin Hill (32), Blake Baggett (4) and Jason Anderson (21), tries for the holeshot in the third and final moto.
