OFF ROAD GEICO AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 5/OCTOBER 4, 2014 NATIONAL WESTERN COMPLEX/DENVER, COLORADO P86 explained. "I heard him at the last second; it didn't sound like he was turning. I knew he was gun- ning for me so I checked up. But I still pretty much got pummeled from the side. We both went down and luckily my long legs picked me right back up. It kind of sucks because that really took me out of contention for gunning for the win tonight." While Webb was dealing with Robert, Blazusiak and Haaker were having a battle of their own out front. The Colorado crowd got loud for the duo as they raced side- by-side through the first lap. Blazu- siak secured the lead but couldn't shake Haaker, who stayed right on his rear wheel. All it took was one small mistake from Blazusiak to let Haaker steal the lead. "It was a stupid mistake," Bla- zusiak said. "I hit the exact same My Own Race: 3 MIKE BROWN 5 TH PLACE Mike Brown is starting to look like his old self again. The factory Husqvarna rider blitzed to the top spot in afternoon qualifiers and went on to ride a solid main event. "The race started out good in the day, getting the hot lap. I crashed in the first turn of my heat race there and rode back to third place, so I was happy. In the main event, I got a little bit of arm pump. I just got a little excited there when I was up with Cody [Webb]. I wanted to push a little bit extra and try to catch up and get to those guys and as soon as I tried, I got real tight and it was kind of downhill from there. I stayed pretty steady. Taylor got me on the last lap there. He and I were together the whole race, really. Off the start he got over on me a little bit, which was racing—I would have done the same. In the main we got together a few times, but it was good. It's just fun racing. Off the track I'm fine with whatever. In the end, it's getting better—we're working in the right direction. I ain't going to stop til I get on the top." 15 MAX GERSTON 6 TH PLACE Factory Beta rider Max Gerston enjoyed one of his career best finishes in Denver with sixth place. "It was super fun. I got a good start and got in right behind Taylor [Robert] and I just tried to stay on him as much as I could. Brownie was in third and he was coming on strong. Lucky we were able to stay out front and he wasn't really able to gain on us so that was fun. The track was super fun and flowy and had a great time, jumping around and finding some cool lines. The rock section was pretty good and it was jumpy and flowy and it was fun, I could get a groove on it. When I'm able to get in my groove, I have so much more fun. I finally rode how I feel I can ride so it felt good." Tayler Robert had a good night but just missed out on making the podium. Mike Brown showed signs of his old self.
