in his first trip overseas but—pre-
dictably—did not look out of his
depth. In fact Kegums seemed to
his liking as he attacked the ter-
rain from the first practice around
a layout that teammate Eli Tomac
described as having sections
similar to the Star Racing Yama-
ha man's home track at Millville.
He could have done little about
the kicker that launched him into
the sand during the qualification
heat on Saturday and resulted
in a broken big toe/foot in three
places. Painkillers were needed
to compete on Sunday and the
whole affair naturally had a bear-
ing on his 11-13 showing.
Tomac was strangely bi-polar
in terms of performance. The
GEICO Honda man was strug-
gling with set-up in the second
moto, his first of the day, and
could not pass Noren for fifth.
The aggression and rabid attack
was in place in the third and final
moto, especially after he tangled
with another rider and went down
on the first corner for the sec-
ond time that weekend. Tomac's
charge to third place was em-
phatic and some technical altera-
tions had clearly done their job.
Jeremy Martin rode
through the pain of
three broken bones
in his foot suffered
in a crash during
qualification.
Gautier Paulin
was the star of the
show. The French-
man led his team
to victory with two
moto wins.
