Lorenzo, hanging back slightly
behind the pair, saw Pedrosa fall,
then saw that Marquez pressed
on at the end of that lap. At that
point, he decided to do the op-
posite.
"I decided to call in, and go for
the win. On this occasion I was
lucky."
Two other big losers were vic-
tims of heavy crashes from which
each was extremely lucky to es-
cape relatively unscathed.
The first was front-row starter
Andrea Iannone, who led the first
lap on his Pramac Ducati and was
in the thick of a strong front battle
on lap two when he ran onto the
outside kerb, which was damp.
He saved that crash but was now
galloping at high speed across
the trackside Astroturf, the bike
bucking brutally until it threw him
down hard, then cartwheeled, al-
most landing on top of him.
Two laps later it was Valentino
Rossi's turn, in a brutally similar
incident while scrapping with Pe-
drosa for what was then third. He
too ran onto the artificial grass
They were this
close at the front
until the rains
came: Marquez,
Pedrosa and
Lorenzo squabble
over the lead.
