Bryan Smith's win at Colonial Downs marked a series leading fourth win of the season. It was Smith's 16th-career AMA Grand Na- tional win, tying him with Randy Goss and Mike Baldwin for 22nd on the all- time wins list. Cory and Shayna Texter made his- tory when they both qualified for the Mega Mile National, marking the first brother-sister combo to qualify for an AMA Grand National main. Cory's Racing Unlimited Kawasaki started losing power and leaking oil caus- ing him to drop out after five laps. Shayna finished the race in 14th on the Latus Motors/Castrol Triumph. The word seems to have gotten out about the motorcycle racing at Co- lonial Downs. After a decent debut last year, there was a packed house on hand for this year's race, this in spite of rain across the region. Fans not only packed the grandstands, but there was standing room only all the way down the front straight. Briar Bauman suffered a major crash in turn two in his heat race aboard the Bill Werner Kawasaki. Bauman was taken to an area hos- pital with a broken thumb and con- cussion. He was kept overnight for observation.
