in these types of conditions,
when it's soggy, I knew I really
wanted to get a good start, so I
tried to focus on that."
Canard took a little bit differ-
ent approach to the start than
did Roczen, Dungey and Tomac,
who lined up on the inside of the
gate. Canard lined up three gates
on the other side of the dog-
house, and the result was two
holeshots.
"That really helped me be-
cause I could sweep around the
outside," said Canard.
But more importantly, Canard
credited a change the team made
to his Showa suspension at the
midway point of the season.
"I think feeling comfortable on
the bike is the difference," said
Canard. "It's no secret we made
changes on the bike and for me
it was an instant comfort level I
hadn't felt all year. Of course, you
can go faster when you are com-
fortable."
Afterwards, Canard said his
win was a huge relief.
"This is a great way to end the
season," said Canard. "I'm really
excited about next year. I think
the team is moving in a good di-
rection and it's good to see Eli
doing good on a Honda. I don't
think it's been too much of a se-
cret that Honda hasn't done very
well the last few years, and it's
exciting for me to see Honda up
there and in the mix again."

Dungey entered the finale with a
slim but mathematical chance of
stealing the title away from Roc-
zen, and the Minnesotan gave
it his best, but even a 1-1 sweep
wouldn't have given him the title.
Dungey wasn't on the same
page as Canard on this day, but
he did go 2-2 for second overall.
"Obviously, we had to have a
lot go right today for us to win the
championship, so it was a bit of
a long shot," said Dungey. "We
believed in it and we did the best
that we could."
Had Dungey ridden as well at
the start of the season as he did
in the end the outcome may have
been a better one for him.
"I lost a lot at the beginning of
the season," said Dungey. "I kind
of put myself in that position, I
dug a little hole, but once I got
things figured out, I started com-
ing back and dang-near made
