MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 10/AUGUST 9, 2014
UNADILLA VALLEY SPORTS CENTER/NEW BERLIN, NEW YORK
P56
ship chase still alive in both class-
es, the final two rounds are prom-
ising nothing less than a dramatic
conclusion in the coming weeks.
In the 450 class, Red Bull
KTM's Ryan Dungey is mak-
ing all the right moves at exactly
the right time as he continues to
chip away at teammate Ken Roc-
zen's points lead. All eyes were
on the KTM duo once again as
they entered round 10's Red Bull
Unadilla National with a 14-point
separation in the champion-
ship standings. With 1-2 moto
scores, Dungey prevailed with a
third victory through the last four
rounds. And with a little help from
Honda-mounted riders Trey Ca-
nard and Eli Tomac who finished
in between the KTM teammates
in the day's overall, Dungey was
able cut Roczen's lead in half to a
mere seven points.
In the 250 class, Valli Motors-
ports Yamaha's Christophe Pour-
cel became the fifth different win-
ner in the class. While he's not in
title contention, the Frenchman
celebrated a breakthrough ride
with his first victory on U.S. soil
since the 2010 season. Mean-
while, Yamalube/Star Racing
Yamaha's Jeremy Martin landed
atop the podium in both motos
to successfully gain the points
needed to maintain a comfortable
lead in the championship stand-
ings. If things continue to stay on
track for Martin, the sophomore
rider could potentially wrap up
the title one round early in Indi-
ana next week.
>>450 NATIONAL
ON THE ATTACK
Coming off a 1-1 sweep at the
previous round, Dungey carried
a great deal of momentum into
the Unadilla round, which also
happens to be a track that the
Minnesota-native has fared well
on many times before. But to
the two-time champ, that doesn't
even play a factor.
"I'm just trying to focus on giv-
ing it my best, what I can control,
and let go of all the things that I
can't," Dungey said. "I know if I
can get up front, it's more than
just getting up into the lead and
racing—these days you've got to
really attack and go strong and a
guy's going to be right on your tail
so that focus has got to be even
higher."
In moto one, a good holeshot
Justin Brayton (10) leads the
way at the start.
