Traditionally a one-lined track,
how you qualify and end up in the
heat races makes a huge differ-
ence at Castle Rock. Wiles had
a front-row spot, but didn't have
a great start. Instead it was Mikey
Rush on the Cascio Rush Racing
Honda that jumped out front while
Wiles was stuck in a pack of Hon-
das – Jared Mees, Brad Baker
and Jeffrey Carver, Jr. – and the
lone Yamaha of JD Beach.
Rush was having a great night
in his first race back since Day-
tona in March. The Northern Cali-
fornia rider was the fastest quali-
fier, won his heat, won the Dash
for Cash and was setting himself
up pretty good for the win as he
led the first 17 laps. But Wiles was
on a mission and he was mak-
ing the most out of the bermed
right-hander after the jump, get-
ting great drives and making up
time. He used the move to pass
Baker and take second and used
it again to pass Rush, although
this time around he made contact
with Rush in the tight left-hander
before the back straight.
"I got into my buddy Mikey
[Rush] pretty hard," Wiles said
about the pass for the lead. "He's
my favorite guy to ride with out
here. That's definitely not how I
wanted to pass him. I wanted to
pass him clean."
But for Rush there were no
hard feelings.
