T
he Grays Harbor Half Mile
may have been a day late,
but it definitely wasn't a
dollar short of entertainment
value. With rain forcing the event
to be moved from Saturday night
to Sunday afternoon, the race
turned into a closely fought battle
for victory between Jared Mees,
Bryan Smith and Jake Johnson
with Mees ultimately taking vic-
tory on his Rogers Racing Har-
ley-Davidson. Smith rode the
Villa-Esparza/Crosley Radios
Kawasaki to second with John-
son taking third on the Rams pur
Winery Lloyd Brothers Motors-
ports Harley-Davidson - making it
an east coast sweep of the po-
dium.
"I got an okay start from where
I was at, and really just picked
my way through," Mees said. "I
think at one point in time I was
like sixth or seventh and just kept
charging up through. The motor-
cycle was grunting off the corner
so good. It was awesome. I can't
say enough for the team. They
deserve all the credit, there's no
doubt – Sammy Sweet, Kenny
Tolbert – those guys deserve all
the credit, all my sponsors for ev-
erything, I'm just sitting on it rid-
ing it and they're making it easy
for me."
And it wasn't just a hard-fought
battle for the win, as there was
a knock-down, drag-out fight
for top six, with riders shuffling
around in the pack so many times
