"There were two or three
times where I thought I had
him and then he'd get me right
back—once on the big tabletop
in the middle and once on the
big downhill," said Tomac. "It
was almost like he would let up a
little bit and then all of a sudden
he would gas it. It was like, 'are
you letting me by, or not?' But it
was a good, fun battle."
In the second moto, Tomac
grabbed the holeshot only to be
called back to the line when the
race was red flagged due to a
malfunctioning gate, which only
partially dropped.
"I was thinking, 'really? I have
to do that again?" said Tomac.
On the restart, Tomac was
up front again, grabbing anoth-
er holeshot. This time, Tomac
pulled a gap fairly quickly. And
while Dungey closed on the Hon-
da rider late in the race, Tomac
did a better job of handling the
lappers than Dungey did and ex-
tended his lead to 18 seconds by
the end of the race.
"Obviously, today I got bet-
ter starts, but I think it's just me
getting more comfortable on
the bike and I'm really comfort-
able on this kind of track, so
that was a good combination,"
said Tomac. "Honestly, in prac-
tice I didn't think the track suit-
ed me very well. But as the day
progressed the track started to
change and play into my style."

down, which made for a very inter-
esting addition to the track. After the
race, a few of the riders commented
on the new sections. Andrew Short
was one who liked the hills. "This
was the best Millville I've ever rid-
den and I think the hill was a great
addition," said Short. "I do think the
downhill was a bit unsafe but that's
motocross, and I think the effort they
put into the track and the facility defi-
nitely showed." Josh Grant chimed
in as well. "Luckily, the downhill was
so fast that it really didn't get rough.
You're accelerating so you are kind
of light on the bike. They groomed
it, because they knew it might get
ugly if it got rough," said Grant. "The
only thing I didn't like was on the
backside of the track, they had this
weird roller-thing, where they used to
