battling with Canard for that third.
"I know it probably only lasted
about 10 or 15 minutes, but that
battle with Trey seemed like it
was an hour," said Tomac. "We
went back and forth and it was a
tough track to pass on. A lot of
the lines came together; it's one
of the toughest tracks that I think
I've ridden when it comes to try-
ing to make a pass. A lot of the
lines swept to the outside and
some of the outside lines just
didn't work, so you had to wait for
a mistake or for a lapper to get in
the way to make a pass."
Canard's Conundrum
Trey Canard has led a lot of laps
over the last few races, but the
Team Honda Muscle Milk rider
has been missing the podium
by the smallest of margins. At
Budds Creek, the Oklahoman
led the first four laps of moto one
but was not able to hold back the
dreaded orange wave of Roczen
and Dungey.
In moto two, Canard battled
for the first half of the race with
James Stewart over third place
before Stewart finally gave way to
Tomac and then crashed out.
When Tomac caught up with
Canard, the two Honda riders
engaged in a fierce fight for the
final podium position, with Tomac
finally taking the spot for good on
lap 13. Canard would eventually
drop off the pace and finish near-
ly 10 seconds behind Tomac but
nearly a minute ahead of Peick in
fifth.
Canard's 3-4 would bring
him fourth overall, while Tomac
claimed the final podium spot.
Peick Picks It Up
Weston Peick parlayed two good
starts into 6-5 moto finishes for
fifth overall. The Soaring Eagle/
RCH Suzuki rider started around
sixth in the first moto and just ran
a consistent race to the finish.
"In the second moto, I got an-
other good start and I settled into
sixth, but then Stewart ended up
going down and I moved up one
spot," said Peick. "This week
was a lot better than last week-
end when I went down in the first
moto at RedBud and didn't get to
finish either moto. So I'm glad to
be back in the top five."
Briefly...
practice usually doesn't go that well,
so it was a good start to the day and
a great start to the first moto with the
holeshot. We led for a couple of laps
and ran up front for most of the time."
Bogle ended up fourth and was still
in contention for an overall podium
finish, but he struggled in the sec-
ond moto. "[It was] just a really tough
moto for me. I didn't get the greatest
start and got shuffled back the first
couple of laps. I felt strong and felt
good all the way through the moto.
I was catching guys at the end, but
I needed to make it happen a little
sooner."
After recently nabbing his first ever
moto win and overall victory in the
250 class, Yamahalube/Star Racing
Yamaha's Cooper Webb struggled a
bit at Budds Creek and was unable
to get on the podium. He rode well,
however, but bad starts hurt him in
the end. Webb ended up going 5-4
for fifth overall. He trails second-
place Blake Baggett by six points in
the standings.
Webb's teammate Anthony Rodri-
guez had a strong showing at Budds.
The Yamahalube/Star Racing Ya-
maha rider, who recently joined the
series after suffering a concussion
at the season opener, went 9-10 for
ninth overall.
