ting him turned and back to the throttle. I was giving him a little taste of his own medicine there. I think he's been doing some Supercamping [American Super- camp], and that's kind of where I came from. Danny Walker taught me that move too." And then, tongue in cheek, Es- lick added something about the taller of the Jakes, Lewis. "I was just wondering when we were going to put a height limit on this class," Eslick said. "That way Jake [Lewis] can't ride anymore." Although Gagne still has the points lead, the lead took a pretty good hit and the gap to Lewis is AMA DAYTONA SPORTBIKE SERIES P98 DAYTONA SPORTBIKE ROUND 4/JULY 13, 2014 MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA/MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA FOR GRANDPA HARV Daytona SportBike and Harley- Davidson racer Kyle Wyman ran the number 11 instead of his usual 33 at Laguna Seca this weekend in honor of his grandfather Harv Rousseau, who passed away on June 25. "His race number when he was rac- ing dirt cars in the '40s and 50s was 11," Wyman said. "I just thought it'd be cool if I could honor him in that sort of way and run a different number for one weekend. And luckily they [AMA Pro Racing] let me do it, so that was pretty cool." Harv was a great influence on Wyman, who not only is a racer, but a team owner as well at age 21. "Hell, he was an entrepreneur, he started a Harley Davidson dealership in 1962 - Harv's Harley Davidson – which is really the lifeblood of our entire family," Wyman said. "It's where our motorcycling lifestyle started. His parents weren't into it. He wanted to do that; he was the pioneer in our fam- ily for that. Obviously, the influence runs really deep. I'm a motorcycle racer because of his life choices and his hard work." Race numbers for most racers have sentimental value, and the number 11 has the extra value not just because it was his grandfather's, but the story of how Harv received it. "I think the coolest part is the story of how he became number 11," Wyman said. "He went to his first race, he got his NASCAR-sanctioned license and had a brand new car he built and they were trying to register for the race and they said, 'Well, you don't have a number on the car, you got to have a number on the car. You can't register.' It was raining; I guess his mechanic sticks his hands in the mud and he runs two streaks down the side of the car, two mud streaks and said, 'Yeah, look we're number 11.' So he ran that number through his whole racing career. He's told that story to me countless times. And I've now told it countless times in the past couple weeks." It was an important tribute for Lewis (85) stormed off the start and was never headed in winning the Daytona Sport- Bike class at Laguna Seca. Jake Gagne (32), Jason DiSalvo (40), Dane Westby (00) and Blake Young (79) give chase.
