said. "I was hitting my lines good,
had all good starts and won ev-
erything."
The next day, things got a little
sticky between the two rivals,
Forkner and Cantrell. They met,
literally, in one of their qualifiers
that saw both riders hit the deck,
twice. On the first lap, Cantrell t-
boned Forkner in a turn that put
both riders in the back of the
pack. As they battled together
through the field a few laps later,
Forkner saw an opportunity for
some revenge and took Cantrell
to the ground and into the LCQ.
Cantrell won the LCQ and after
the race, from the podium, apol-
ogized for his earlier actions on
Forkner. He later admitted that
the heat of battle got the best of
him.
"[In the qualifier] it got a little
bit rowdy," Cantrell said. "I got
the holeshot and he kind of came
in on me on the hill, he didn't
touch me but he cut in front of
me. I made a pretty aggressive
moveāit probably was really dirty.
We both went down and he got
me back later. It was definitely an
emotional day."
"I don't know," Forkner said of
his battle with Cantrell. "We were
just riding super aggressive, but
you have to be kind of aggres-
sive on this track. It was all right,
whatever. I just don't want to ride
like that the rest of the racing
season."
After winning the Supermini 2
run-off on Wednesday, Forkner
was going for a sweep in the Su-
permini 1 run-off moto, where he
and Cantrell went at it again. This
time Cantrell got into the early
lead with Forkner chasing him
in second. Forkner got close to
Cantrell at one point but bobbled
and lost a few bikelengths. He
started mounting a second run
on him when he began to slow
and eventually pulled off the track
with a bike issue, ceceding the
win and class championship to
Cantrell.
"There was a rock sticking out
in the back [of the track]," For-
kner said. "I had been hitting it
because it was in the main line.
