OFF ROAD AIRES AMA NATC MOTOTRIALS US NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 7 & 8/ JUNE 28-29, 2014 TRIALS TRAINING CENTER/SEQUATCHIE, TENNESSEE P102 and cleans on the first loop were threes and fives on the second and third loops. Somehow, I hit all my marks and I just got it all together mentally and wound up with a huge win," said Webb. Smage's third-place finish was enough to wrap up the series title, no matter what happened on Sunday. The rider from Wis- consin, however, was not exactly pleased with his performance. "It's good to win the title, but I'm not real pleased with the cir- cumstances. It's hard to think about it right now," admitted Smage. "These weren't the best conditions for me, this is what I struggle with the most, as far as terrain. Muddy hills are my weak- ness, so it was definitely a tough day, but in trials you have to be able to ride anything, and I need to go out and work on this." Although he finished second for the seventh straight event, Martin Matejicek turned in his best performance to date and it was also the first time he was able to beat Smage. "I'm very happy with my trial today," said Matejicek. "I think I had a really good day. I wouldn't say I like these conditions, but I think I ride this stuff well. Some sections, all you could do was push to get to the exit and get a three, but in some the trac- tion was good enough for you to make a good ride and I think I had enough of those that helped me to get second." The rain returned on Sunday and so did Webb's form, the fac- tory Beta rider leading the round from start to finish. Despite the fact that the orga- nizers eased up a few sections in anticipation of more rain, Sun- day's event was only slightly easi- er than Saturday's. Also expecting another rain- storm, Webb got off to a quick start in an effort to ride as many sections before the wet stuff hit. And at the end of one lap, Webb led the Pro class with nine points, consisting of four single dabs and a five in the last section, which featured a slippery climb.
