SUPERSPORT CHASE
Hayden Gillim won in dominating fashion in Saturday's
Supersport final. Gillim raced his TOBC-backed Suzuki
GSX-R600 to a 5.987-second victory over Dustin Domin-
guez in Saturday's race. Dominguez had to battle late
to earn back the spot from an up and coming Kaleb De
Keyrel, who briefly held second late in the race before
Dominguez charged back.
Then it was Dominguez who had his hands full of
Gillim and young De Keyrel on Sunday, but Dominguez
used his racing experience to pull away on his HSBK
Racing Yamaha in the final few laps as the top three
riders hit heavy lapped traffic. In the end the margin of
victory for Dominguez on Sunday was 1.178 seconds. It
marked the first win of the season for the Oklahoman.
It was a tough weekend for series leader Corey
Alexander. He ended up in the gravel trap, having lost
the front end going into a turn in Saturday's race. He got
back on his Celtic/HVMC Racing Suzuki and struggled
initially to power it out of the gravel, but he got back on
track hoping to minimize the damage in the points. He
came back with a better run on Sunday to finish fourth.
Gillim's win and runner up finishes combined with Al-
exander's 13th and fourth, means those two are now tied
atop the series standings. Dominguez also closed up in
the standings into a close third, just 12 points out.
Dustin Dominguez (68) split Supersport wins on the
weekend with Hayden Gillim (69).
