at Barber Motorsports
Park, much of the 2014
season has been nothing but
trying for Dane Westby. First the
crash in the Daytona 200, then a
motor that turned into a grenade
at Road America. Even after fi-
nally scoring a podium (a third in
race two at Road America), West-
by wondered if he had the stuff
it took to win races in the highly
competitive Daytona SportBike
class. The Oklahoman rider with
the nickname of "The Wolverine"
answered those self-doubts at
Barber, with an impressive pair
of wins on his Yamalube/Westby
Racing Yamaha R6 – the first
DSB sweep of his career.
He won the races in complete-
ly different ways. In Saturday's fi-
nal he led most of the race, only
having to deal with a late-race
challenge by J.D. Beach. Beach
tried to set up for a possible draft
on the final straight, but pushed
