LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 51 ISSUE 24 JUNE 17, 2014 P45
Briefly...
For all of the teams, bike setup is a
major obstacle at each course. With
that in mind, James Stewart talked
a little about the mental process that
goes along with physically setting up
a bike. "It's one thing to struggle with
the bike, and it's another to get in the
mindset that you are struggling with
the bike," said Stewart. "I've tried to
pull myself out of that mindset and
not use that as a crutch. In the first
two races, even though we struggled
with the bike, I really didn't ride that
good, either. I think the good thing
is, the team sees how hard I work,
and they are kind of looking at how
we can improve, and I think the last
few races we have done that. I'm the
guy that's doing the testing and I'm
the guy riding the bike, so the team
can go as far as I can take them. So
I keep putting effort into it, and it's
good to leave California and come
here and go 1-1."
After the High Point race, James
Stewart addressed some of the
rumors about retirement. "I've been
really enjoying racing and I feel like
my race craft has gotten better and I
feel like I still have a lot I can accom-
plish," said Stewart. "Today, I think I
feel good about staying in the game
and as long as the team wants me
around then that's what I want. And
as long as racing is fun to me then
that's what I'll do."
Weston Peick had his best finish of
the season, the Soaring Eagle/RCH
Suzuki rider going 10-5 for sixth.
"The first moto didn't go the way
I wanted, I got a 10

some changes to the bike and I got
off to a decent start in the second
moto and I started picking guys off
and got up into fifth at about the half-

After a quiet start
to the outdoors
series, James
Stewart is now
making plenty of
noise after going
1-1 at High Point.
He's also won three

motos.
