LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 51 ISSUE 23 JUNE 10, 2014 P79 Toyota Yamaha rider grabbed the holeshot in moto one, but gave way to Stewart before the end of the lap. Dungey got him on lap four, with Roczen doing the same on the following lap. Finally, Ca- nard got the best of Grant three laps before the end of the moto, leaving Grant in fifth. In moto two, Grant was third out of the first turn and spent most of the race in fifth. Late in the race, however, Grant bobbled in one of the deep ruts, allowing Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Brett Metcalfe to go by. 250 NATIONAL Baggett Rises From The Ashes With the dominance of the Yam- alube/Star Racing Yamaha duo of Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb, a few folks were already writing off Blake Baggett, in part because of his recent eye in- jury. However, the former 250 outdoor champ turned in an impressive second moto win to take the overall victory at Lake- wood with a 4-1 moto score. Indeed, Baggett admitted that his injury has been part of the reason for his slow start to the outdoor series. "Injuries and just not being prepared has been the differ- ence and Jeremy came out prepared for this series," said Baggett. "I don't think I was pre- pared, I've only had one 30 min- ute moto, and that was at Comp Edge [in California] the Tuesday before Glen Helen. I haven't done a 30 since, except for the races." Although he's been somewhat silent on the eye injury, at Lake- wood, Baggett revealed that a rock went through his goggle lens and put a deep gash in his eye, which bled for days. "I can't ride a lot with my eye screwed up because it's still blurry," said Baggett. "We just weren't as ready as we thought we were. We've been chasing our tail a little but I think we're going in the right direction and there's 18 motos left in the series and anything can happen." Bogle On The Rise GEICO Honda's Justin Bogle pro- duced his best finish to date in the outdoor series, turning in a 3-2 performance for second overall. While running second in the first moto Bogle bobbled partway into Briefly... were definitely strong off the start. I've struggled here on 250s with no power and that's tough." After the race, James Stewart hint- ed at the prospect of the Yoshimura Suzuki team picking up his brother, Malcolm, to ride along side him dur- ing next year's series. "It's definitely something we are looking at," said Stewart. "He's pretty much riding on a satellite team, and he is not riding the same bike as Trey Canard, so I think the move would help him." Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Marvin Musquin, who is still on the mend from a preseason knee injury, enjoyed his best overall finish of the season with fifth overall. His fourth in the second moto was also his best moto finish of the year. "I am happy with my results today," Musquin said. "The 7-4 moto scores for fifth place is my best finish this season. My knee is feeling better each week and I am excited to get closer to a podium spot." Justin Bogle didn't let his big crash at Hangtown rattle him much. He ended up second overall in the 250s.
