in eighth. He would, however,
come on strong in test two and
post the fastest time, beating
Bakken by seven points. Fah-
ringer would go on to win two
more tests, tests — three and four
— while Bakken would not win
another test all day. But the lead
Bakken built up in test one would
wind up being just enough to give
him the overall win by 15 seconds
over Fahringer at the end of the
day. The win would mark the first
victory for a Yamaha since Char-
lie Mullins won the title in 2010. It
was also the first National win for
Yamaha's YZ250F.
"I'm just really excited to get my
first overall win, and especially to
get it here in Virginia," said Bak-
ken. "I knew going in it was go-
ing to be a fun event because it's
kind of like a home race, I don't
live too far from there."
"I got off to a good start in the
first test and I won it by a decent
margin, which helped," added
Bakken. "Luckily, Nick had a
problem in the first test and was
pretty far down, which was good
for me, because he came on
strong after that. The rest of the
race I just kind of rode consis-
tent."
Bakken did have a problem of
his own in test four with a lapper,
which left him fifth-fastest for the
test.
"I clipped his bars and went
down," said Bakken. "I knew I
couldn't do that again, so I just
made sure I was consistently fast
