LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 51 ISSUE 22 JUNE 3, 2014 P65
dium at an outdoor National, but
it's safe to say it hasn't been for a
while. With Martin and Webb fin-
ishing 1-2 on the Yamalube/Star
Racing Yamahas and Pourcel
finishing third on the Valli Motor-
sports Yamaha, it was certainly
another big weekend for the blue
crew.
Webb got off to third-place
starts in both motos but both
times had some serious work to
do before getting into second. In
the first moto, Webb had to fight
his way around GEICO Honda's
Justin Bogle, and in the second
moto, he had to battle past for-
mer MX2 World Champion, Pour-
cel. By then, both times, Martin
had already checked out. So, for
the second week in a row, Webb
had to settle for second overall
with a 2-2.
"I just need to get some bet-
ter starts, but overall, I'm happy,"
said Webb. "In the second moto,
we were all going for it. I actually
passed him [Pourcel] in the sec-
ond turn but he passed me back;
I was behind him, and Jeremy
was pulling away. I felt like we
were going pretty fast. We paced
each other trying to catch Jer-
emy, but I made a few mistakes
and Jeremy was on rails again. I
want that win and we're going to
some tracks that I really like."
Moving On Up
For the first time since 2011,
Christophe Pourcel stood on
podium in the U.S. Compared
to last week at Glen Helen, the
Briefly...
Championship, which started on the
same weekend as Hangtown, but
Cunningham chose at the last mo-
ment to stay in the U.S. and follow
the AMA Championship. He says
that he's still receiving full support
from MotoConcepts but will work out
of the Gurrnaid Energy Drink camp
while the MotoConcepts hauler is in
Canada.
Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin
is still trying to get back to top form
since returning from a knee injury. He
got a decent jump off the line in the
first moto and was in fourth place in
the opening lap when a rider ahead
of him crashed leaving him nowhere
to go and Musquin also hit the dirt.
He got up in 18th place and finished
ninth. The second moto didn't go a
whole lot better after getting a 10
th
-
place start and crashing again. His
9-7 results earned him seventh over-
all. "I am still having a little bit of trou-
ble with my knee, but it will improve
the more I train and race during the
week," he said. "I am happy to have
an improvement on my results from
the last week and hope to be closer
to the top five in Thunder Valley."
