et's be honest – the 2014
AMA Pro SuperSport Se-
ries had the look of a clean
sweep of the season by Corey
Alexander. After all the Celtic/
Hudson Valley Motorcycles Su-
zuki rider simply dominated at
Daytona, securing pole position
and winning both SuperSport
races by massive margins. Then
Alexander breaks his collarbone
in a Supermoto training crash
and had to have surgery just a
few weeks before Road America,
yet he still won Saturday's race at
Elkhart Lake convincingly - mak-
ing it three wins in a row, with no
end in sight.
But then Hayden Gillim caught
a break as Sunday's race ran un-
der dicey conditions. The race
was red flagged when rain fell
on turn three, causing six riders
to go down in rapid succession.
The race was restarted with five
laps to go. Alexander, not want-
ing to risk riding too hard with
grey clouds overhead, rode cau-
tiously. Gillim took full advantage
battling back and forth with the
series leader for the lead.
Despite all this Alexander had
enough talent in hand to lead the
race coming out of the final turn.
At first it didn't appear that Gillim
was close enough to recover for
