LUCAS OIL PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 51 ISSUE 21 MAY 28, 2014 P47 and no one could catch him, though Roczen got close right at the end. Grant shot his JGRMX YZ450F to the front of the pack at the start of moto one and quickly opened up a comfortable lead that he kept for most of the race. Grant, who hails from nearby Riverside and is no stranger to the Glen Helen track, certainly had the speed to win but would his stam- ina hold up? The last time he led a moto, on a super-hot day at the Lake Elsinore National, he wilted at the end of the moto and sat out the second moto. He got going again and was making headway before he bobbled and stalled the bike and had to start all over again. All his effort was worth it, though, as his 1-15 plac- ing gave him fifth overall and a strong start to the series. "The first moto was great," Grant said, "but it was something that I expected from myself. I knew where I stood. GEICO Honda's Zach Bell returned to racing after getting injured in Su- percross. "The first race was going really well; in fact I got the holeshot," Bell said. "I was riding my own pace and getting into the groove of everything. Jeremy Martin got around me and we ended up battling back and forth for a while, which was fun. At one point, I was go- ing down the big hill and a rock got stuck in my chain and that stalled out the bike. I hit false neutral a few times, and it just knocked the wind out of me and I fell back. The second moto just kind of was a so-so race, but I'm glad I'm healthy and feeling good. After be- ing out for a while, it was good to be back on the bike and avoid injury." Blake Baggett and Christophe Pourcel had a great battle in the first 250 moto.
