Test three would be a turning
point of sorts. Midway into the
test, Mullins took a wrong turn
and followed another rider down
the wrong trail, which cost both
riders precious time. By the time
Mullins discovered his mistake
and got back on track, he was
only able to manage the fifth fast-
est time for the test.
In the meantime, AirGroup
Racing's Nick Fahringer was just
finding his stride. After spending
the first two tests dealing with a
new suspension setup, Fahring-
er found his groove in test three
and posted the first of two test
wins.
Mullins found trouble again in
test four when he discovered he
had no rear brake. For the entire
nine-mile section, Mullins rode
with only his front brake and for
the second test in a row he was
fifth fastest.
Fahringer answered with an-
other test win and closed in on
Mullins lead, along with DeLong,
who was second, second, sec-
ond and fourth in the first four
tests.
