OFF ROAD AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 7/MAY 17, 2014 CALIENTE, NEVADA P92 My Own Race: 911 JACOB ARGUBRIGHT 4TH PLACE O/A Bel-Ray/FMF/Moose Racing Husqvarna factory rider Ja- cob Argubright had a long day in the dust after his Braking/ Dunlop/MotorcycleSuperstore.com FC 450 balked on the line. "I don't know, I just couldn't get the bike started!" he said. "I practiced really, really good starts. It just didn't fire. Then I had terrible lines off the start, because it was so dusty. I was barely in the top 20; it was terrible! Then I just kind of worked my way up." 13 AXEL PEARSON 5TH PLACE O/A "I felt really good, like this is kind of like my home track. I haven't ridden every trail, but I've ridden some of these before so I feel comfortable here," Purvines Racing Beta's Axel Pearson said. "That start was real hairy, though, be- cause of the rocks. I was lucky to pull fourth. Actually, by the end of the banners, I was side by side with Nick [Bur- son]. We went back and forth a little bit, then he was on it a little more than me. After that, it was kind of follow the leader, it was so freakin' dusty. Heading out on the second loop, I clipped a rock and took my brake pedal off. It bent it down to where I didn't have any pedal so I had no [rear] brakes, but I was still riding good." N999X STEVEN KIRK III 1ST 250CC EXPERT, 9TH O/A "I had a pretty good start," DT1 Air Filters/FMF/Kenda YZ250-mounted Steve Kirk III said in describing his 250cc Expert win and best-to-date ninth overall finish. "It was re- ally dusty and I started to get swallowed in it. Once we got on the [BITD] Silver State 300 course that was previ- ously graded and I held it on and tried to stay with it, and it worked out. I was catching Kevin Murphy about halfway through the first loop. I think he blew a corner, hit a stump, and then I got by him and just dropped the hammer and took off." N1L MAGGIE PEARSON 1ST WOMAN EXPERT, 62ND O/A Western Design Racing's Maggie Pearson, the reigning champion in Women Expert, won the class for the fifth round in a row, effectively clinching the title for the sec- ond straight season with 196 points, unofficially. Though regarded as a local favorite since she's from Pioche, she hasn't ridden here much. "I don't really ride down here much so I kind of go into it like any other place," Pearson said. "I've ridden a couple of those trails before but not re- ally. Most of it, I haven't ever ridden before, so it was just like any other place — go and ride the race! I only tipped it over a couple times so it was a good day! I had fun; I got a decent start; that was the main thing. I probably stayed about the same place the whole race." After winning the Micro Mini (65cc) class in the combined Super Mini/Jr. Mini (85cc)/Girls/ Micro Mini race, Hunter Ray hopped on his KTM 50 and added the Pee Wee victory as well in his first National of the season.
