AMA DISTRICT 37 BIG 6 GRAND PRIX/AMA WEST HARE SCRAMBLES SERIES VOL. 51 ISSUE 19 MAY 13, 2014 P93 My Own Race: JUSTIN SEEDS 2 ND OVERALL PRO Kawasaki-mounted Justin Seeds described the strenuous second half of the race, and recalls discovering that the misfortune of others had put him back into second overall. "I was trying to keep track of everybody. When Argubright went down, I thought, 'Shoot, I must be into second in my class.' Then I realized that Blayne [Thompson] pulled out and he wasn't there. I knew I at least had a decent gap. I don't know who that was in third but I kept an eye on him. I kept seeing him catch up so then I'd push again and I'd get sick feeling and slow down and just putt. I can't remember the last time I felt like this. I never had no energy after a race. It's weird because usually I excel in the heat and I usually like it, but I don't like it right now! " NICK STOVER 1 ST L/W EXPERT – 3 RD PRO II Newly aboard a Husqvarna TC 250, 3 Brothers Racing's Nick Stover lined up for both the West Coast Grand Prix on Saturday and the Lightweight Expert class on Sunday. He was victorious in the Expert class while carding third in the Pro II division on Saturday. "In the WCGP I got a bad start and got taken out a couple times. I started to get a little heat exhaustion about half way through so I pulled off, wait- ed a couple laps just to cool myself down. I went back on the track and just cruised around for a couple laps. I ended up getting third because I guess everyone else dropped out. So I was really happy to find that out. The Lightweight Expert class went much better for me. I got the holeshot and the whole time just tried to stay consistent and smooth and ended up doing good – first place in my class and second overall." VAUGHN WILK 3 RD OVERALL PRO Returning to the West Hare Scrambles podium after finish- ing second at the previous round was Vaughn Wilk - son of Dick's Racing's Dick Wilk. The 24-year old rode his Valley Motorsports/Dick's Racing YZ450F to a strong third place finish in the West Coast GP Pro class, even though he con- fessed that it was a struggle. "It was hard to get a flow. I was struggling right from the beginning. It seemed like I was hitting every whoop, every rock and couldn't get any flow going. I finally got through my arm pump, and started finding the good lines, trying to miss all the bumps. I was in fifth for a long time and a couple guys had some problems, crashing and breaking bikes and whatever, and I ended up on the podium." "All I could think of was the cham- pionship," Argubright said. "I needed to get some points." He managed to remount his FC 450 and ride conser- vatively through the second half of the race to stay inside the top-10. The misfortune of Thompson and Argubright gave second place right back to Seeds, who like many, was struggling to keep pressing on the last half hour. "Oh yeah, it was a tough one," said Pro II winner Nic Garvin. "We were working our hardest, that's for sure. The last 30 minutes was a disaster; the heat was a disaster. Just getting to the finish line was key." Second Pro II finisher Kevin Bar- bosa agreed, saying, "it pretty much felt like a desert race out there. It was extremely tough. I feel like I'm in good shape — I try to work out every day — and I literally was almost passing out Nick Stover claimed the Lightweight Expert-class victory.
